Travel Diary: Johor Premium Outlets (JPO)

8:37 AM

Johor Premium Outlets or JPO is our must-vist and top priority place to visit on our Johor Bahru. weekend trip. After all, I am with shopaholics and brand mavens. We, actually, its "they" who can't wait to compare the price differences of branded items in JPO with those in Singapore, China and US.

Johor Premium Outlets or JPO opened last 11 December 2011 and houses 80 designer and name brand outlet stores such as Burberry, DKNY, Michael Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Coach, etc.

I hope you don't back out when I say designer brands because actually the savings you can get would range from 25% to 65%. Aside from the big names, there are affordable brands (made even more affordable!) such as Cotton On, Charles and Keith, Adidas, G2000, Lacoste, Esprit, Body Shop and more.

Its not only for the ladies :) Johor Premium Outlets offers something for everyone, even men and kids. From footwear, clothes, bags, accessories, perfumes, chocolates, luggages, and the list goes on.

Visit this link for a complete list of stores within the Johor Premium Outlets compound.
How cheap is cheap, you ask? It really depends on your spending power. My brothers had good deals from Coach. They have really nice selection of items for men. Most items are last season collection but still good enough to own.

For a cheapskate and bargain hunter like me :) Cotton On in Singapore is affordable but over there its unbelievable. I got 2 skirts and 1 top for just 35MYR. I got to check the same items in a store in JB sentral and 1 of the skirt would cost 29.90 MYR already so I really snagged some bargains there.

There are "seriously nice but I gotta hold back" items from Burberry and Michael Kors featured in my October Lust have blog entry weeks ago. It would cost only about 980 MYR from original price of 1500++ MYR.

All in all, make sure you have allotted a specific budget so that you won't overspend or an emergency fund. Otherwise, you'd sure be swiping your credit card.
My brothers and I with our shopping bags

If you get too tired after a day of shopping, there are plenty of benches around where you can just people watch, there are benches by the fountain which the kids will love, and there are cafes and restaurant to fill your stomach and re-energize. It reminded me a lot of Nuvali in Laguna and Bonifacio High Street in Manila because of its very classy yet laid back atmosphere.

JPO opening hours is from 10am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday. Better to come early so that you won't have to rush buying stuff. We reached at 4PM and left at 8:30PM. That's hours of non-stop shopping, no eating and sitting breaks :)

ACCESSIBILITY, TRANSPORTATION AND DIRECTIONS
It is highly accessible as it is about an hour drive from Singapore, 30mins from JB Sentral and about 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur. The way to JPO feels a lot refreshing as compared to the central area :)

When travelling to Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) by public transport and through commuting, you can take multiple options. Directions and Transportation options may be found in this page.

We opted to take a cab. Our taxi fare was about 30 MYR when flagged in meter but the driver politely asked us to add some more because he doesn't have a passenger going back.

We were too tired so instead of taking buses, we took a cab again to head back to JB Sentral. Surprisingly, it was a 96 MYR dent in our pockets. The cab we took was those dark blue cabs queueing in JPO. The cabs looks newer and nicer. It seems like it has a different flag down and per km succeeding rate.

If you wish to convert :) as of this writing, the exchange rate for 1 MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) is 0.4006 to SGD (Singapore dollar) = 13.5278 PHP (Philippine Peso)
